Founded in 1998, Historic Houston was begun by amateur and professional historians and preservationists concerned that Houston's rich historical and architectural heritage was rapidly disappearing.

Recognizing that a significant percentage of landfill space is occupied by building material both old and new, Historic Houston has created programs that address the need for waste control. Simultaneously we make a priority to conserve irreplaceable historic building materials that are disappearing at a rapid rate as a result of redevelopment.

Historic Houston is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to conserving and promoting Houston’s historic architectural and cultural resources through scholarly research, education and advocacy of sustainable design.
